“Apple’s iTunes music store has been blocked in China, allegedly due to some athletes listening to protest songs.”
Apple’s iTunes “has sold over five billion songs since its 2003 debut, while the iTunes music catalog has ballooned to over eight million tracks. Customers can also choose between over twenty thousand television episodes or over two thousand films, 350 or so of which are available in high definition.”
“Since its debut five years ago Monday, Apple’s iTunes Store has sold more than 4 billion songs and accounts for approximately 70 percent of digital music sold worldwide. In the next five years, it may well account for a staggering 28 percent of all music sold worldwide.”
Apple iTunes is now the No. 2 music retailer in the United States, behind only Wal-Mart, based on the latest data from researcher NPD Group — passing Best Buy Co. and Target Corp.
