“Not many monthly comic books come with a glossary, but not many comics are like Unknown Soldier.” The series, published by an imprint of DC Comics, “is about Dr. Lwanga Moses, a Ugandan whose family fled the country for the United States when he was 7. He returns as an adult in 2002 with his wife, Sera, also a physician, hoping to put their medical skills to use in a part of the country that has experienced civil war for 15 years.”

Nutcracker, Beijing-Opera-Style
A new version of the evergreen ballet by the Dalian Acrobatics Troupe incorporates “many types of Chinese performing arts such as Peking Opera, acrobatics, pantomime martial arts, conjuring and burlesque.” The show is now opening in Shanghai after a European tour.
Houston Symphony CEO Heads Down Under
Matthew VanBesien, the 39-year-old executive director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra, is leaving his post at the end of the year for a similar job with the Melbourne Symphony. Among the challenges he’ll face in his new job are the 18-month renovation of the orchestra’s concert hall and hiring a successor to departing chief conductor Oleg Caetani.
