Calvin College, a Protestant school in western Michigan, has cancelled a concert by Canadian indie-rockers The New Pornographers following weeks of complaints by some in the community about the band’s name. (Previous appearances by the Barenaked Ladies and the Crooked Saints seem not to have caused any controversy.)

NJ Symphony’s New Music Director Has Auspicious Start – $25M Worth of Auspicious

Met Opera Plans a Baroque Mash-Up
Pasticcio – cobbling together a “new” opera out of arias swiped from existing works – was standard in the 18th century. The Met is reviving the practice with The Enchanted Island, assembled by William Christie from Handel and Vivaldi. The cast includes half a dozen Baroque experts (led by DiDonato and Daniels) and Plácido Domingo as the deus ex machina.
