“Two days before the opening of Oregon Ballet Theatre’s 20th anniversary season, the company and its embattled executive director, Jon Ulsh, are parting ways.” Last month, “a letter calling for Ulsh to resign was signed by a large percentage of Oregon Ballet Theatre staffers and delivered to the board of directors.”

Kennedy Center Launches National Arts Ed Program
The pilot “Any Given Child” project announced Friday for schools in Sacramento, Calif., could be expanded to as many as three cities each year, the center said. Under the strategy, the Kennedy Center will link local arts groups with schools to help teach students in grades K-8.
Frieze Or Foire – The Stakes For Top Art Fairs
“The stakes in this competition are high. The art world looks to these fairs, along with others in Miami and Basel, Switzerland, to gauge tastes and test markets for top artists around the world. London’s major auction houses time their contemporary fall sales to coincide with Frieze every year. This year, many wary collectors who used to travel to a different fair every month are choosing to attend only one or two fairs.”
Needed – Truth In Movie Reviews
“In a depressed economy, when movie ticket prices are not being discounted, I think it is nothing short of dishonest for movie bloggers to offer raves for ads just to ingratiate themselves with the movie studios. Rebranding The Louvre
“Critics seem to view the idea of branding the Louvre as both crass and unnecessary, and are particularly dismissive of Henri Loyrette’s outreach abroad. Supporters believe that he is merely doing what any museum director has to do these days to make the institution a financially stable place.”
Broadway Tries Talking With The Audience
“I think talk-backs are being embraced more and more by commercial theater because we producers sense that when people connect to a show, they want to prolong that experience as much as they can.”
The Reality Of Pop
“Today, electronic sounds dominate the charts. But we’ve domesticated the electricity that once sounded so exciting and packed it into little white computers. As Human League founder Martyn Ware says, the element of risk has gone and watching even the pioneering Kraftwerk on their last tour ‘was like watching four old guys checking their email’.”
Louvre To Open McDonald’s? Er…
“Appalled art lovers cringe at the possibility of the outlet serving up a juicy Double Da Vinci burger with a side of frites. Or a Francis Bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich.”
